The Hermosa Beach Civil Service Board on July 27, 2026 approved staff-recommended retitling of the lead special events and filming coordinator to "Recreation Coordinator II," along with corresponding job-spec revisions. Director Nichols told the board the changes are intended to broaden program-specific language and reflect duties already performed, not to create new positions or change pay.
During discussion, commissioners asked whether the positions were intended to be revenue-neutral when placed in the 2024 budget. Director Nichols and staff reviewed budget context: the positions were included when the fiscal 2024–25 budget was adopted (June 11, 2024), and a June 4 study session slide had noted an expected first-year incremental film revenue of $55,000 and referenced fee-waiver reductions; staff also said the budget book lists revenue and expenditures for council review. The motion to approve the 7a job changes carried unanimously.
