Members paused their legislative business to honor the life and legend of David Crockett. Representative Hawk introduced students from David Crockett High School who performed the national anthem and invited park managers from David Crockett State Park and the David Crockett Birthplace State Park to speak about the site’s history and planned restoration.
Anne Paley, park manager, described Crockett’s life and framed the planned museum and restoration at the birthplace park as a way to "bring David Crockett home." Representative Hawk and others noted the 190th anniversary of Crockett’s death at the Alamo and said the Tennessee State Parks Conservancy and state partners would collaborate on a rebirth of the park to preserve remaining historical features.
Speakers asked the chamber to recognize the park staff and conservancy members in the gallery and invited members to visit displays and artifacts, including a loaned historical rifle exhibited in a member’s office.
