Union County updates residents on operations; payroll hiccup and rising fuel costs noted

Hughes and Commissioner Collins also addressed operational issues: County Construction/Maintenance awarded a mowing contract to Moore's Lawn Service after receiving 15 bids. Payroll processing experienced a timing issue after the county's migration to the Tyler accounting system; the issue was described as human error and most employees were paid by 9 a.m. on payday. Collins reported a notable increase in fuel spending: February totals were $23,884.07 for 8,522 gallons (gas and diesel combined) while March totals were $34,227.42 for 8,464 gallons; 2025 county fuel use was about 125,000 gallons, which the commissioner said is cause for concern should prices remain elevated.
