Union County approves $20,000 transportation needs study with Georgia Mountain Regional Commission

Sole Commissioner Harold Collins accepted an agreement with the Georgia Mountain Regional Commission to conduct a Transportation Needs Study for Union County and the City of Blairsville. The agreement covers Feb. 1, 2026 through June 30, 2026 and carries a total cost of $20,000; the City of Blairsville will reimburse Union County for one half of that amount.
Collins told the meeting the mayor of Blairsville requested the study to evaluate traffic in and around town and on county roads; the goal is to support better and more efficient planning in coming months and years. The study will provide data for long-term transportation planning rather than immediate construction commitments.
The agreement was accepted by the commissioner at the March 24 meeting and recorded in the minutes; no separate vote tally was provided in the minutes.
