Tadd Swartz, project manager for AIS Infrastructure, told the Union County Development Authority on March 9 that work to expand the lot on Airport Terminal Road began in early January and is progressing.
"We have hauled 9,861 loads and are about 45% complete with the dirt fill project," Swartz said, adding that, weather permitting, the lot expansion should be mostly complete by mid‑April.
The project is being undertaken as part of road‑widening and related infrastructure work on Highway 76 between Blairsville and Hiawassee. Chair Rick Davenport introduced Swartz to the board and noted the Authority is monitoring related site readiness for future development opportunities at the airport industrial area.
The update provided the board with a clear schedule expectation and a quantified progress measure (loads hauled and percent complete). The board did not take a vote on this item; it was provided as an operational update. The project status may affect the availability of airport industrial parcels and related marketing to prospective tenants.
