Corey and Melanie Merritt, representing the Porter Lions Club, asked the board to close Highway 51B starting at P Street for the Porter Peach Festival and detour traffic north on P Street. The club also requested use of the Porter Fairgrounds for festival parking.
Residents and others raised concerns: Jackie Todd and Joey Hatfield said P Street is not wide enough for the proposed detour; Kimmie Mullen noted the Red Barn is already rented on the festival Saturday; Jackie Todd suggested using the field across from the baseball field on the east side of First Street for parking instead. The minutes show the board took no action on the agenda items to close streets or allow fairground parking.
The discussion remains open for future coordination between the Lions Club, town staff, and property owners; no formal approvals or conditions were recorded at the April 3 meeting.
