Porter trustee’s motion to end Wagoner County policing contract fails for lack of second

Trustee Norma Meyer moved to terminate the Provision of Law Enforcement Services contract between the Town of Porter and Wagoner County, arguing the town was not receiving value for the $66,000 it pays under the arrangement. "I don’t feel like Porter is receiving $66,000.00 worth of enhanced services," Meyer said during the Jan. 9 meeting.
Wagoner County Sheriff Chris Elliott responded with a written report and a summary of patrols and responses in Porter for December, saying, "Porter receives extra patrols for the money Porter is paying Wagoner County." Trustee Clifford Marshall said he favored keeping county coverage but wanted to negotiate the payment amount. Meyer’s motion to terminate received no second and therefore died for lack of a second; Meyer left the meeting at 6:26 p.m. The board took no further formal action on the contract that evening.
