BLM reports Triple B wild-horse gather underway; proposal would remove more than half the herd

Melissa Fisher, Wells Field Office field manager, briefed the committee on the Triple B complex wild-horse gather currently underway. Fisher said the current population estimate is 3,335 horses and that the Bureau's appropriate management level (AML) for the complex is 472 to 889 animals. "They proposed a removal of 2,155 horses to remove those and then to gather up another 100 and then of course treat them, 50 stallions and 50 mares with, suppression vaccine gonacon and then release them back out on the range," Fisher said.
Fisher estimated the gather should be wrapping up "a week, week and 0.5" from now. Committee members asked no substantive technical questions beyond scheduling; the update was informational and no county vote or formal directive was recorded during the meeting.
