Committee accepts additional DCJS funding for Ignition Interlock Device monitoring

The Public Safety and Emergency Services Committee unanimously approved accepting and appropriating $36,741.95 in additional funds from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services for the Ignition Interlock Device Monitoring Program. The total award is $102,300.95, of which $65,559 had been accepted in the county’s 2026 budget; the additional amount will offset program expenditures and reduce county taxation, the committee record says.
Probation Director Timothy Davidian explained the county is the monitoring agency for the devices while vendors supply and install the hardware under state approval. "It is always nice when the State gives more funding than expected," Davidian said, adding there are about 350 installed devices, roughly 400 conditional discharge cases monitored and about 700 convictions being tracked; installation rates were described as 30%–35% statewide.
