Residents asked whether public park access, pier leases and private association agreements would change if Shore Acres consolidated with La Porte. Mayor Rick Hilton and staff said lease agreements with the Shore Acres Recreational Association and other arrangements would be honored and parks would remain open to the public under La Porte policies.
Officials also acknowledged that recent hurricane damage to a pier exceeded the escrow set aside for maintenance, and that the city and county are working to secure funds to complete repairs. "We have we have an escrow fund that's set up, and an agreement with the county to maintain the pier. This hurricane damage exceeded the amount in escrow," a staff member said.
