Residents press missing audits; La Porte says election can proceed

Multiple Shore Acres residents raised alarm that three years of Shore Acres audits were not completed, asking whether La Porte would accept consolidation without audited financial statements. "There are 3 years in Shore Acres budgets that have not had outside audits done," resident David Geraney said.
La Porte staff acknowledged the gap and said having annual financial reports and audits would be preferable, but that Texas election and consolidation procedures do not require those audits as a precondition for the vote. Corby Alexander said the process the cities are now in is the election and that canvass and voter approval determine consolidation, while outside audits would help inform the city’s later accounting and transfer of cash and assets.
