Mayor Rick Hilton opened by setting ground rules for the meeting and introducing participating officials. Corby Alexander, who presented financial and operational estimates, said La Porte expects to integrate Shore Acres into existing patrol districts and municipal systems while aiming not to raise La Porte’s tax rate for current residents. "At this point, we would not anticipate a tax rate increase to La Porte residence," Alexander said.
The session addressed multiple practical concerns from Shore Acres residents, including missing audits in Shore Acres’ books, the need to replace roughly 700 water meters to match La Porte’s billing system, the treatment of Miramar Park leases and pier maintenance, and the timetable for a May election and subsequent canvass. Officials said the consolidation would take effect once both cities have canvassed their results and that redistricting of La Porte council districts could follow to rebalance representation.
