Vernon County approves ARPA grants for fairgrounds, fire departments and water meters

The Vernon County Commission approved several American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding requests during its Dec. 24 meeting. Commissioner Cindy Thompson moved to approve Compton Junction Rural Fire Department’s application #42 for $20,000 to purchase an SCBA compressor and cascade system; Commissioner Everett L. Wolfe seconded and the commission voted unanimously to approve the request.
The commission also approved ARPA application #34 from the Vernon County Youth Fair Board for $230,000 to expand fairground facilities, approved ARPA application #32 from the City of Sheldon for $78,681 to purchase water meters, and approved ARPA application #41 from the Deerfield Rural Fire Department for $20,000 to buy new gear. Commissioners additionally approved a withdrawal letter for ARPA application #6 from the City of Sheldon. Each of the listed motions was made by Commissioner Cindy Thompson, seconded by Commissioner Wolfe, and recorded as approved by all commissioners present.
