La Porte staff to begin two‑year development code rewrite with GLO grant; commission scheduled for training

City staff told the Planning and Zoning Commission that the development code rewrite — funded by a Texas General Land Office (GLO) grant — will be a roughly two‑year effort with a goal of completing a unified development code by May 2028.
"It's going to pretty much be a complete rewrite of our development code with the intent of having what's called a unified development code... we have to have that finished by May 2028," staff said. The rewrite will fold subdivision, zoning and design standards into one document and will include an outreach and steering process. Staff also said the commission will receive training next month on Robert’s Rules and their roles and responsibilities under state law.
