Consultant Tom Hannam told the Elko County Board of Commissioners the feasibility study for alternative routes around Lamoille Highway is about 95–98% complete, presenting traffic projections, level‑of‑service estimates and five candidate routes for the board to consider.
Hannam reported an average daily traffic (ADT) count of about 27,500 on the segment from AirCart to Fall Street and said projections included scenarios for 1,000 more homes, 2,000 more homes and a full build‑out near 5,300 homes. "Traffic's basically in there," Hannam said, summarizing level‑of‑service ratings that were generally in the A–B range except for a few intersections in peak hours.
Commissioners pressed for additional details: a cost estimate and miles for each route, an acquisition/easement analysis (public vs. private land), and a recommendation or ranking based on a decision matrix that weighs cost, emergency access, safety and development potential. Hannam said the final report will include route lengths, rough construction costs in today's dollars, land‑ownership implications and a decision matrix to help the county prioritize options; he estimated some bridge options could reach tens of millions of dollars and cited a rough example: a full bridge could be on the order of $35 million.
The board asked that the consultants work with city staff and state corridor planners and deliver a ranked recommendation and cost/mileage estimates by May–June when the final package is completed.
