County endorses venue district budget amendment to fix drainage at Tri-State Fairgrounds entryway

The court approved a $160,000 midyear amendment recommended by the Amarillo Potter Events Venue District to fund improvements at the Tri-State Fairgrounds entryway near Gate Number 3 to address drainage and recurring potholes.
Laura Storrs, assistant city manager and venue district liaison, said the amendment would increase the venue district's budget from $4,783,000 to $4,943,000 for the fiscal year and that the request carries no Potter County general-fund obligation because venue district projects are funded by hotel occupancy and vehicle rental taxes. "This will demolish the asphalt that's there and install a concrete driveway that would solve the drainage issue and prevent future potholes as well," Storrs told the court.
Commissioners asked about reserve levels; Storrs said sufficient reserves exist and that the district board recommended the change. The court approved the motion and Storrs said the venue district will seek city council approval next week.
