City Hall construction on schedule; council asks for pricing on reinstating selected features

City staff gave a progress update on the City Hall construction project, reporting that the foundation, steel and roofing are complete and that the project remains on a contract end date of Dec. 18. Staff said the project had been value-engineered early in construction and presented several items that might be added back in, including a decorative fountain, a police vehicle canopy and a stone dumpster enclosure; staff said there are contingency funds and contract credits that might cover some items but that some additions would require drawing on project contingency.
Council sought clearer cost estimates and timeline impacts; one councilmember urged using leftover funds for staffing rather than a fountain. Staff said they would confirm updated pricing for the fountain and canopy, test the building’s internal radio signal after shell-in to determine if an emergency radio booster is needed, and return with firm quotes and recommendations. A project manager gave a target dry-in milestone of 03/26 and said the transformer was scheduled to be set about 03/15, and he reaffirmed a planned move-in for late August.
