Potter County Commissioners enacted a 90-day burn ban beginning March 24, 2025, after county fire and emergency officials reported a sharp worsening in drought indices and an increase in both the number and intensity of fires.
"Our drought index...has been showing really low numbers that, as everybody knows, within the last couple weeks, everything has changed drastically, and we've been running a lot of fires," said the official presenting the proposal. He added, "So we have to put a burn ban on at this time, basically, to give that level of protection to everybody." The court approved the 90-day restriction by voice vote.
