EMA: Probable EF1 storm caused localized damage; countywide siren activation under review

The Geneva County Emergency Management Agency reported that last Saturday's storm will likely be classified as an EF1 and caused scattered, mostly minor structural damage.
EMA Director Brian Smith told the Commission that one house on County Road 91 sustained minimal structural damage and a barn was lost; several houses on County Road 4 also had minimal structural damage. There were numerous downed trees and power lines, and the agency assisted the Town of Black with tree clearing. Smith said that during the event the sirens were activated countywide, not only in the affected area, and that it is unclear whether that reflected a technical or human error.
The EMA will continue damage assessment and follow-up on siren procedures to clarify the activation error.
