Smith also told the commission that three employees had submitted two-week notices and that one part-time employee will move into a full-time slot. Commissioner Jeff Hatcher said there are approximately 700 delinquent accounts (the majority at least six months delinquent) and asked the director to provide the exact number; the commission discussed pursuing small-claims or criminal collection processes and asked staff to explore options with the circuit clerk and county attorney.
The director confirmed that garbage is still being collected at delinquent accounts, and that the county continues to collect payments via state income tax intercept where applicable. The commission asked staff to return with a proposed process to address long-term delinquencies.
