County outlines April–June roadwork schedule; Poole Road bridge closed for approximately two weeks

County Engineer Justin Barfield told the Geneva County Commission on April 14 that several road projects are scheduled for spring and early summer. He said the MPO resurfacing project on County Road 68 is scheduled to LET on April 25, 2025, with construction expected to begin in mid-May, and that the CDBG Block Grant paving for County Road 75 in Sellersville should LET in mid-May with construction beginning in early June.
Barfield reported that the contractor moved a crane onto the Poole Road bridge site and the road was shut down at 8:30 a.m. the morning of the meeting for a storm-water drain replacement and bridge work expected to take approximately two weeks; E-911 and school transportation were notified. He said once Poole Road bridge work is complete, crews will move to the L. Vaughn Road bridge, which is estimated to take about one month to complete, and that utilities were being moved this week to avoid delays.
The engineer also said permanent striping will begin this week on a Rebuild Alabama paving project, six driveway pipes have been installed since the last meeting, and brush cutting and right-of-way mowing are scheduled. The commission approved an interlocal patch-work request from Holmes County (County Road 185) and authorized Road & Bridge to perform the work.
