La Porte shifts boundary line to allow Morgans Pointe park expansion

La Porte approved a boundary adjustment with the City of Morgans Pointe to allow expansion of Morgans Pointe’s Grimes Park.
Staff explained that Texas Local Government Code §43.015 allows adjacent municipalities to mutually adjust boundaries for narrow strips. The proposed adjustment moves La Porte’s eastern boundary from the east to the west side of Donaldson Avenue for an 80‑foot width stretching about 459.8 feet north of East Main Street, totaling about 35,000 square feet (less than one acre). The change addresses planned park improvements (mini‑golf, trails, fence) that would otherwise fall within La Porte’s boundary. Staff said there is no existing city infrastructure in the affected area and that shifting the line should not affect future connectivity; the council approved the boundary‑adjustment ordinance on a motion.
Council asked whether La Porte residents would retain access; a Morgans Pointe representative said the intent is for the park to be public and accessible to La Porte and neighboring residents, though council suggested documenting that assurance if desired.
