La Porte honors long‑serving city employees and wins APWA project award

La Porte city leaders recognized long‑time employees and celebrated a statewide public‑works honor during the council meeting.
At the start of the meeting the council acknowledged Christopher Brooks for 15 years with the Solid Waste division. A colleague told the council Brooks is a “very reliable employee for Public Works” who trains dozens of coworkers. Later the council recognized Officer Chris Page for 25 years as a school resource officer at Lomax Junior High; a fellow officer said Page’s school role “has the ability to kind of shape…the future” for students.
Staff also described the recently renovated Recreation & Fitness Center—originally a 1961 bowling alley, converted and reopened after a 2024–2025 renovation—and accepted the Texas chapter American Public Works Association Project of the Year for Structures (agencies under 50,000). Staff credited PGAL Architects and Construction Masters of Houston for design and construction; staff invited project team members forward to receive plaques.
