The Coosa County Commission voted Feb. 11, 2025, to sign a letter supporting Coosa Valley Medical Center’s application to adjust the Alabama State Health Plan to add five geriatric psychiatric beds and create 20 new adult psychiatric beds in Sylacauga. In the letter entered into the record the Commission stated, “We are writing to express our strong support for Coosa Valley Medical Center's application to adjust the State Health Plan to add five (5) geriatric psychiatric beds and create twenty (20) new adult psychiatric beds in Sylacauga, Alabama.” The document explained the expansion would increase access to geriatric and adult psychiatric treatment for families in Talladega and Coosa Counties. The motion to approve the Commission’s letter was recorded with Commissioner John Forbus making the motion and Vice-Chair Brandon Davis seconding; the body’s vote was noted as unanimous.
