Coosa County approves $25,000 ARPA funding agreement with Auburn Extension for local nutrition education

The Coosa County Commission voted Aug. 13 to approve a funding agreement with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System at Auburn University to fund a local nutrition education program using ARPA revenue-replacement funds. Commissioner John Forbus moved to allow Chair Bertha K. McElrath and County Administrator Amy Gilliland to sign the agreement; the motion passed unanimously.
The agreement (Project No. 01037-061-240520-0035; FAIN SLFRP5492) authorizes up to $25,000 for the program and sets reporting and oversight terms: funds must be obligated by Dec. 31, 2024 and expended by Dec. 31, 2026, and the recipient must provide quarterly reports beginning July 1, 2024. The county’s contract text specifies eligible uses (equipment, supplies, personnel) and lists disallowed uses consistent with Treasury guidance on SLFRF revenue-replacement funds.
Auburn representatives are listed in the agreement as contacts for the project and the county will handle payment requests on a monthly basis with supporting documentation. County officials said the agreement is intended to support ongoing nutrition education and programming to foster community health.
