Commission directs staff to apply for CDBG funds to replace Tuscarora water tank

Sienna Sterman of Elko County Community Development presented a request to direct staff to submit a 2025 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application for Tuscarora water system improvements. Sterman said the project would replace an aging 57,000-gallon bolted steel storage tank with a welded 74,000-gallon tank, requesting $462,320 in grant funding.
Commissioners asked questions about population change and tank sizing; staff explained NDEP requires redundancy for fire suppression and the project was recommended following a PER by Day Engineering. A motion to direct staff to submit the CDBG application was made, seconded and approved by the board.
