County wins BOA and strategic‑planning grants as staff begin countywide planning work

Director Kari Terwilliger reported the County was awarded $160,000 for a Countywide Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Pre‑Planning Inventory & Analysis to map underutilized commercial and industrial properties (excluding the City of Auburn) and identify smaller clusters for future BOA planning. The project is a 24‑month, 90/10 grant and staff plan to issue an RFP for consultant services.
Terwilliger also said the County received $103,500 to develop a new Countywide Strategic Plan, a 36‑month project that began April 1. A 16‑member steering committee has been convened. Terwilliger said NYSDOS will reimburse 90% of eligible expenses and the County will cover the remaining 10% from Planning Department budgets. Staff will return to the Legislature for resolutions to contract with consultants and to accept grant reimbursements as work proceeds.
