State awards $9.7M DRI to Cayuga Lake villages; Beacon Bay Marina also wins $1M Restore NY boost

The Beacon Bay Marina redevelopment in the Village of Cayuga also received a $1 million Restore NY award, bringing state support to about $3.5M for the waterfront reuse project.
Kari Terwilliger, director of Planning & Economic Development, told the committee that “On May 15th the Governor’s Office announced that the following 9 projects were awarded a total of $9.7 Million” through the DRI program for the Cayuga Lake Route 90 corridor villages. The awards fund waterfront redevelopment, park transformations and mixed‑use buildings across the Villages of Cayuga, Union Springs and Aurora.
Senior Planner Evan Tuthill detailed the Village of Cayuga’s flagship project: the Beacon Bay Marina redevelopment. The plan repurposes a former factory into lodging units with a manager apartment, expanded dock facilities and a small open‑air gathering space. Terwilliger and Tuthill said the Beacon Bay project received $2.5 million from DRI and an additional $1.0 million from Restore NY, bringing state investment in the project to roughly $3.5 million toward a $7 million‑plus redevelopment. Other funded projects include McIntosh Park renovations in Cayuga; a mixed‑use building, park upgrades and marina gateway work in Union Springs; and a Southern Gateway waterfront park and historic building restoration in Aurora.
Committee members and staff said links to the project renderings and the vendors’ Strategic Investment Plan are available through the state’s published materials. Terwilliger noted the Restore NY contract and DRI implementation steps must now proceed through local permitting and grant administration before construction can begin.
