Cortland County Board of Health accepts 2025 Community Health Assessment, advances CHIP work

The Cortland County Board of Health voted unanimously March 17 to accept the 2025 Community Health Assessment and to continue work on the county Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). The motion to accept the CHA was moved by Mary Wright and seconded by Sandy Price and recorded as approved unanimously.
Epidemiology Manager Hinal Patel told the board the CHA has been submitted to the New York State Department of Health and the state granted an extra six months to complete the CHIP. The assessment expanded its analysis of health‑care access gaps to cover both mental‑health and primary‑care access (including provider availability and transportation barriers) and updated priority areas; 17 organizations responded to the stakeholder survey. The board was told the CHIP is a “living document” that will be updated annually based on state feedback.
Board members were asked to share the CHA data and web links with community partners and to advocate for funding when the CHIP is finalized. The board’s acceptance sets staff on a timeline to incorporate state feedback and present CHIP updates at future meetings.
