At the start of the meeting27s public-comment period, Nadia Aradak identified herself and told the commission she owns two Cooper City properties and that both received large increases on their property-tax notices. "My name is Nadia Aradak, and I am a local resident of Cooper City," she said, adding, "I will have to pay an additional 5,000 on 1 property this November." She said one property is a homestead and the other an investment property.
City staff responded in the meeting and offered a one-on-one review to explain the notices and whether the increase comes from the change in assessed value rather than a higher city millage. Staff noted that "our tax rates are going down" in the proposed millage and suggested Aradak meet with staff (Erwin/Irwin) immediately after the meeting to review her trim notice. The clerk and staff emphasized that valuation changes can drive increases even when the millage rate is lower.
