Mayor James Curran read a proclamation declaring Sept. 15–21 as National Diaper Needs Awareness Week in Cooper City, citing research that many families struggle to afford a regular supply of diapers and that insufficient diapers can affect child health and parents’ ability to work. The proclamation noted claims that nearly one in two families encounter diaper need and that some parents delay changing diapers to extend supply.
Dwayne Wolf accepted the proclamation in person and thanked the commission. Wolf, introduced by the proclamation as the in-person representative for the diaper-bank effort, said he is a Cooper City resident and that he and his wife have worked on the initiative for nearly 10 years. "We've distributed a little over 2,000,000 diapers throughout the 31, 32 municipalities in Broward," he said, adding that no family should have to choose between diapers and groceries. The proclamation urged community support for diaper banks and related public-health efforts.
