The city council advanced an ordinance to rezone 1466 Dix Highway from Neighborhood Business District to Municipal Business District to allow expansion of an adjacent used‑car business.
Owner Moe Bazi addressed the council at the podium and said the half‑acre lot has been vacant for years and that rezoning would allow him to add 20'–30 parking spaces to combine the parcel with his existing dealership at 1522 Dix Highway. "My main goal is not really for the used car lot show or anything other than combining it with the existing business for additional parking," Bazi said, adding the plan includes front and rear green belts to improve the appearance.
Staff noted the Planning Commission held a public hearing on July 8 and voted 6‑0 to recommend the rezoning. Council members asked whether off‑street parking would already be permitted under the current zoning and about fire‑safety and building‑department follow‑ups; staff said the differences were driven by the number of parking spaces requested and that the building and fire departments would ensure code compliance. The ordinance received its first and second readings at the meeting.
