Tioga County adopts $22.54 million 2025 budgets, sets county tax rate at 4.07 mills

The Tioga County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the county’s 2025 budgets and a separate tax levy on Dec. 10, 2024. Commissioner Marc Rice moved to adopt the budgets, Commissioner Shane Nickerson seconded, and the motion carried with three ayes and no nays.
The adopted budgets list a General Fund of $22,536,695, a Human Services fund of $21,200,063, and Liquid Fuels of $274,250. Separately, the board adopted Resolution R-16-24 fixing the 2025 tax rate for county purposes and debt at 4.07 mills per $1,000 of assessed value. The resolution was passed and signed on Dec. 10, 2024 by Commissioners Sam VanLoon, Marc Rice and Shane Nickerson.
A public commenter, Erick Coolidge, raised concerns during the public-comment period about the economy, the budget and a possible tax increase. The county’s chief assessor certified the county/municipal taxable value for 2025 at $3,870,606,320, which provides context to the levy calculation. The board scheduled its 2025 organizational meeting for Jan. 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
