Wayne County Board Authorizes Multiple Grants and Contract Amendments Including $228,602 DCJS Pre-trial Award and $345,212 Discovery Reform Grant

On Jan.20 the Wayne County Board approved several grant acceptances and authorizations to apply for funding that county officials say reduce local taxpayer costs and support public safety and justice programs.
The board amended the Wayne Pre-Trial Services contract to include a DCJS award of $228,602 to support electronic monitoring and two full-time Pre-Trial Release Case Managers; the funds were disbursed to the County on Dec.29, 2025. The board also accepted a Criminal Justice Discovery Reform grant from DCJS for up to $345,212 (Apr.1, 2025–Mar.31, 2026) to assist the County and District Attorney's Office with discovery-related expenses. Separately, the board authorized the Chair to execute a VOCA contract with the NYS Office of Victim Services for annual funding of $108,275.97 (part of a $324,827.90 multi-year award) to support Victim/Witness Services.
In addition, the Board authorized the Sheriff (Sheriff Milby) or his designee to apply throughout 2026 for multiple grants (Stop School Violence, DCJS competitive programs, COPS, Homeland Security, NG911, Bulletproof Vest Initiative, and others) and noted that NYS often provides short notice for application windows.
