The Wayne County Board of Supervisors authorized the Purchasing Agent, County Administrator and Radio Committee to develop and release a Request for Proposals for a full public safety radio system conversion to a P25 digital system potentially operating on the 700/800 MHz band.
Board materials and the Radio Committee noted consultant reports from NYSTEC and presentations from Monroe and Ontario counties with existing P25 systems. The resolution notes the upgrade would improve interoperability with those counties but would likely require replacement of the majority of mobile and portable radios used by the Sheriff's Office, municipal police departments, fire departments and EMS agencies; many current radios were purchased about 15 years ago. The Purchasing Agent will collect vendor responses and forward them to the Radio Committee for analysis.
