The Tioga County Board of Commissioners adopted a proclamation on Aug. 13 recognizing September 2024 as Hunger Action Month. The proclamation cites Feeding America data that more than 1.5 million Pennsylvanians and one in six children in the state face food insecurity, and lists Central Pennsylvania Food Bank distribution figures noted in the minutes (over 68.5 million pounds statewide, and 1.4 million pounds distributed in Tioga County in FY2024).
The proclamation calls for collaboration among public and private entities to address hunger and for local outreach and education in partnership with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. The motion to issue the proclamation was moved by Marc Rice, seconded by Sam VanLoon, and carried unanimously with signatures from all three commissioners.
