Montgomery County declares state of emergency after winter storm; officials praise response teams

Resolution 26-0233 declares a state of emergency in Montgomery County and authorizes the use of emergency authority "for the protection of lives and property of the people of Montgomery County," according to the agenda text. County Administrator Michael Colbert used the remarks portion of the meeting to thank Emergency Management, Facilities, the County Engineer's staff, the Sheriff’s Office and the Communications team for their work during the winter storm.
Colbert said Communications Director Danielle Malagerie "did an incredible job keeping everyone up to date as the storm came through," and he singled out the County Engineer and staff for road-plowing efforts. Commissioners Mary A. McDonald and Carolyn Rice also noted storm response work; McDonald reminded residents to license dogs before the end of January and reflected briefly on a recent Clay Township town hall, while Rice encouraged residents to consider the Master Recyclers Program. Colbert also described the Youth Works and Building Futures apprenticeship program for young people aged 14–24 and directed listeners to thejobcenter.org for more information.
