On January 27 the Board of Commissioners approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Lawrence County Juvenile Center to provide community residential services for approved Fayette County juvenile offenders. The contract sets a per‑diem rate of $250 per bed and runs from January 1 through December 31, 2026; the agreement permits renegotiation upon 60 days' written notice and specifies that the rate will increase to $400 per bed if the facility becomes IV‑E eligible.
The motion was made per the recommendation of Judge Mary E. King and was moved by Commissioner Tony Anderson with Commissioner James D. Garland seconding. The contract text assigns responsibility for medical, dental, counseling or other non‑routine costs to the juvenile’s parent/guardian, insurance provider, or the placing court if necessary, and requires monthly invoicing from Lawrence County for Fayette County payment.
