Howard County Commissioner Berry presented Bergen Kingley with a county recognition for academic achievement and extracurricular leadership during the court’s June meeting.
Commissioner Berry said Kingley qualified for the county honor by meeting two criteria: strong academic performance and active curricular involvement. "She graduated with the highest honors," Berry said, noting Kingley took multiple AP courses and ranked No. 2 in a class of 226. Berry also highlighted Kingley’s leadership as student council co‑president and captain of the track team, recounting that she volunteered to run the mile to secure points that led her team to a district championship.
Bergen Kingley told the court she will begin summer training the first week of August and confirmed she has signed a college scholarship to run track at Queen's University in Charlotte, North Carolina. Commissioners and the presiding judge offered congratulations and a round of applause; Berry said Kingley will travel to Austin on June 26 to join 14 other students receiving a state recognition after a superintendent nomination.
