Wayne County secures $20,000 Black Rock grant; warns of $3 million in disinvestment affecting workforce development

Grants Coordinator Jay Roscup told the Government Operations Committee that Wayne County has received a $20,000 grant from the Black Rock Foundation to support workforce development programs. Roscup also said the county will participate in a Wallace Foundation planning-year initiative, which includes funding for a nationally supported Children's Funding Coordinator who will support career development efforts.
Roscup announced a stakeholder meeting scheduled for March 12 from 8:00 a.m. to noon to convene supervisors, school administrators and other partners to discuss 'Cradle to Career' initiatives. He cautioned, however, that federal grant reopenings are beginning while state funding remains on hold pending federal decisions, and said there has been approximately $3 million in disinvestment this year and next; he warned that, if funding disappears, Community Schools may withdraw from some districts after February break.
