Elk County commissioners elect Hendricks chair, approve routine 2025 administrative items

The Elk County Board of Commissioners elected Commissioner Doug Hendricks as chairman for 2025 in a unanimous vote during the organizational portion of the Jan. 13 meeting. Commissioner Jake Liebau moved the nomination and Commissioner Perry Russell seconded; the board recorded the vote as 3-0 in favor.
The commission approved several routine administrative measures for 2025, including the appointment of Kandy Dowell as county health officer, designation of the Prairie Star as the official county newspaper, adoption of the 2025 holiday schedule (to follow the State Holiday Schedule), and adoption of GAAP Resolution #25-01 exempting the county from KSA 75-1120a. The board also approved the 2025 commission meeting dates and payroll and warrant dates for posting on the county website, retained Rachel Ware as investment officer, and authorized a list of staff as users on bank signature cards at Howard State Bank and the Bank of Commerce. All listed motions carried 3-0.
The actions place routine administration and finance items into effect for the year; the board noted the courthouse will be closed on Dec. 31, 2025 for year-end balancing and set meal reimbursement at $15 per meal and $30 per day. The minutes note that the County Attorney’s Office will follow the State Holiday Schedule and that the adopted meeting and payroll calendars will be posted on www.elkcountyks.org.
