Waste Management official outlines bulk‑pickup changes affecting about 400 Wyoming County addresses

Waste Management representative Blair Lakso updated the Wyoming County Planning Committee on Jan. 28 about changes to the company’s bulk‑pickup program for 2026. The company plans to move some collections from a 12‑week cadence to a six‑week cycle, increase the permitted number of bulk items from three to four, place 30‑yard roll‑off containers at town and county locations, and continue electronics and paint pickup under the county contract.
Lakso said the changes will include a “rebalancing of routes,” which will alter scheduled service dates for about 400 addresses in parts of Castile, Gainesville, Genesee Falls, Eagle and Perry. He told the committee he will provide a spreadsheet of affected addresses and that implementation will occur roughly five weeks after all parties approve the adjustments. The county will publish dates and instructions via postcards and online postings; County Administrator S. Schrader said county staff are updating the county web page that includes a web mapper with instructions.
The committee was told that coordination with the GLOW Solid Waste Recycling Administrator, Caroline Berkemeier, is important to avoid conflicts between contractor and town events. Committee members did not record a formal vote on the update; the matter was presented as an operational update with follow‑up tasks for Waste Management and county staff. The presentation was made during the Planning & Development portion of the agenda and was introduced by Blair Lakso.
