County departments report spring events, increased senior meals and pool maintenance needs

At the April 7 meeting several department heads provided routine operational updates. Public Works Supervisor Shaun Minks said crews are maintaining roads and repairing equipment and announced Spring Cleanup at the landfill April 13–18 and Hazardous Waste Training April 21–23. Building Maintenance Supervisor David Manzano said he is getting quotes from local contractors to address swimming pool issues and has obtained anchors to repair a pergola; Commissioner Martin asked Manzano to investigate the cost to repaint the pool exterior.
Health Department Administrator Denise James reported that the department served 400 patients last month, passed the Kansas Board of Pharmacy inspection and distributed 42 senior food boxes; she also noted attendance at the Governor's Public Health Conference in Wichita and flagged National Public Health Week (April 6–12). Senior Center Director Nancy Borthwick said the center averaged 65 meals per day in 2025 and as of April 7, 2026 is averaging 77 meals per day, and that a new part‑time employee will start on Monday. Register of Deeds Julie Widder provided counts for documents and passports processed in February and March and is scheduled for website training.
