County awards metal culvert contract to J & J Drainage Products for $26,421.45

During the Feb. 23 meeting Highway Administrator Bobby Shomper reported the department's recent work—road blading, hauling rock, pipe installation and tree removal—and said the new belly dump trailer and two motor graders have arrived at the yard. He also reported that new tube heaters were installed and functioning.
The Board opened bids for metal culverts and reviewed three offers: J & J Drainage Products at $26,421.45; Contech Engineered Solutions at $28,357.62; and Metal Culvert, Inc. at $41,263.25. Commissioner Mayo moved to accept the J & J Drainage Products bid for $26,421.45; Commissioner Carlson seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Mr. Shomper also referenced prior communications with Commissioner Mayo about landfill issues during the exchange; Commissioner Carlson asked why Mr. Shomper had acted without prior Board discussion. The Board did not reverse the culvert award; procurement will proceed under county purchasing rules.
