FHSU asks Ellis County to waive tree-limb disposal fees; commission denies request

Fort Hays State University employee Brandan Ibarra asked the Board of Ellis County Commissioners to waive fees for the university’s tree limb disposal at the county transfer station. Environmental Director Justin Craig told the commission that a new secured-load policy requires all loads to pass through scales; that change means some entities that previously were not charged are now assessed disposal fees.
Commissioner Michael Berges said he did not want to set a precedent of waiving fees and both Chair Neal Younger and Berges agreed FHSU should continue to pay for limb disposal. The record shows the commission declined the fee waiver request during the discussion of the added agenda item VII.
