The Wise County Commissioners on April 13 approved the Sheriff's Office request to purchase a Ford Mustang for the traffic division at a total price of $74,788, including equipment.
Special Services Captain Rex Hoskins presented the request and Chief Deputy Eric Debus said the decision "was justified by its speed for traffic enforcement, reduced repair costs compared to other models (like a Dodge Charger) and the Mustang's ability to maneuver quickly on County roads." The Mustang will be assigned to Sergeant Riggs while an additional traffic deputy will initially use a Tahoe; county leaders said the long‑term goal is to standardize traffic units.
The purchase will be funded from the SB22 Fund and the Court approved the request unanimously.
