Wise County accepts FY2025 audit showing $81M in capital assets, unmodified opinion

County Judge J.D. Clark and the Wise County Commissioners on April 13 accepted the county's FY2025 outside audit as presented by Snow Garrett & Williams.
Rick Kline, Senior Audit Manager with Snow Garrett & Williams, told the Court the firm issued an unmodified opinion for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2025. Kline said "total Capital Assets increased to $81 million," driven by courthouse renovations, equipment purchases and jail safety equipment, and that total debt declined by $8.3 million to $36.4 million. He reported total revenues of $74.8 million and total expenditures of $80.6 million, and noted public safety accounted for the single largest portion of expenditures at about $27 million.
Kline also reported there were no material weaknesses or significant deficiencies identified in the audit and that lateral roads fund balances and flows were enumerated in the report. Judge Clark told the Court the figures and the unmodified opinion supported the county's financial strength; the Court voted unanimously to accept the audit as prepared and presented.
The acceptance completes the external review for FY2025. No follow-up corrective actions were identified in the audit presentation, and Kline thanked the County Auditor's Office for its assistance during the audit process.
