Planning staff told the commission that roughly 19 parcels along the U.S. 31 North Corridor need rezoning to align with the county's development expectations. Commissioner Brent Pomerhn suggested zoning certain areas Business or Industrial "instead of rezoning to Agriculture because of the development the Comprehensive Plan predicts," and the commission voted to schedule a public hearing in March to take public input.
The hearing will allow residents and property owners in the corridor to comment on proposed map changes and staff-proposed zoning designations. No final rezoning occurred at this meeting; staff will present recommended ordinance language and maps at the March public hearing.
