The Ward County Commissioners Court voted unanimously Feb. 10 to grant a petition creating the Ward County Hospital District and ordered an election for May 3, 2025. Commissioner Guy Thames moved the petition and Commissioner Eddie Nelms seconded; the court adopted the motion unanimously.
The measure authorizes levying annual property taxes "at a rate not to exceed seventy-five cents ($0.75) on each $100 valuation of all taxable property in the district," and sets early voting for April 22–25 and April 28–29, 2025 at the Ward County Courthouse. The election will be held at regular polling places from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 3, 2025. The motion language was placed on the record by Commissioner Guy Thames as the mover.
