The Wise County Commissioners' Court on March 23 approved purchase of a 2025 demo Terradyne armored vehicle for the Sheriff's Office through a Sheriff's cooperative program. Captain Rex Hoskins described the need for a purpose-built armored unit for special response calls, noting the county's current "armored" vehicle is a painted ambulance.
Hoskins told the Court the demo truck is available through the cooperative for $324,000 and would deliver by May; he said a comparable new vehicle would cost about $150,000 more and take roughly 18 months. "The purchase will be coming from the Capital Expense budget," Hoskins said. The Court voted unanimously to approve the purchase and authorized the use of Capital Funds.
County officials said the vehicle will be available to neighboring counties by mutual-aid request. The Court also authorized staff to explore options for purchasing one or more one-ton pickup trucks (bid, cooperative, or auction) and to sell an old gas pickup once replaced.
